NH Voices for Health is committed to ensuring a strong, high quality and affordable health care system for the families and businesses of our state, and seeks to make sure consumers know their health care rights so they can utilize the health reforms achieved. New Hampshire First in Nation for Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan
The new health law creates a high-risk pool program to help adults who are uninsured and have a pre-existing condition get insurance as soon as possible. The program is a bridge to the health insurance exchanges that will be available in 2014. New Hampshire, which has been a leader in health reform, had previously established a state-level high risk pool. For our state, the provision in the new health law allowed New Hampshire do additionally have a federally-funded high risk pool program which expanded access to more Granite Staters. The program is administered in New Hampshire by New Hampshire Health Plan, a non-profit organization, under a contract with HHS which is financially responsible for the program. New Hampshire Health Plan provides administrative services only. More information on the plan can be accessed at: http://www.nhhp.org/nhhp-fed/what-is-nhhp.asp.
As a result of having the first federally-funded pre-existing condition insurance plan up and running, New Hampshire also boasts the first person in the nation to receive health coverage through the new high risk pool.
